Backdating jobseekers allowance
If you make a new claim or have a change in your circumstances that would mean you start claiming one of these benefits – Housing Benefit, Jobseekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit or change from one benefit to another, you will have to claim Universal Credit instead or Housing Benefit.
You will still need to apply for Council Tax Support from Ribble Valley Borough Council and provide us with your Universal Credit letter when you first receive it and provide the notification each time the award is changed.
Council Tax Reduction (CTR) is sometimes called Council Tax Support and it provides help for people on a low income. Council Tax Reduction schemes are run by local councils; as a result schemes will differ depending on who your council is.
If you have a partner, and your joint income is less than £226.50, then you should also qualify for Pension Credit. If you receive Universal Credit you will be longer entitled to Housing Benefit (help with your rent) from the Council.
